PUROLATOR AND THE WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS JOIN FORCES TO TACKLE HUNGER
Fans to donate food for a photo with the Grey Cup
WINNIPEG - Purolator, Canada’s largest courier company is proud to host a Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive in support of Winnipeg Harvest at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Edmonton Eskimos game on Friday, July 13.
Purolator is asking football fans to participate in the food drive by bringing a non-perishable food item or cash donation to the Purolator Tackle Hunger trucks stationed at Canad Inns Stadium. In return, fans can have their picture taken with the Grey Cup. Fans will also have the chance to enter to win a trip for two to Grey Cup final in Toronto. Winnipeg Blue Bombers players’ wives/girlfriends will join Purolator employees and food bank volunteers to accept donations.
Last year, Winnipeg football fans helped raise 12,200 lbs of food by participating in the Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive.
What: Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive in support of Winnipeg Harvest
When: Friday, July 13 – Starting at 4 p.m. until the end of the first quarter
Where: Food collections to take place at all gates at Canad Inns Stadium. The Grey Cup will be located outside Gate #3 (north side of the stadium)
Who: Winnipeg football fans, Purolator employees, Winnipeg Blue Bombers players’ wives/girlfriends
In addition to the Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive, every time a CFL quarterback gets sacked throughout the regular season, Purolator donates the equivalent of the quarterback’s weight in food to a CFL hometown region food bank.
Purolator Tackle Hunger food drives are part of Purolator’s commitment to help alleviate hunger in Canada and will extend across Canada throughout the season at various CFL games. Since 2003, Purolator Tackle Hunger has delivered over 1 MILLION pounds of food to local food banks across Canada. Purolator’s goal for 2007 is to raise the equivalent of 450,000 lbs of food.
About hunger in Winnipeg
The need for food bank donations in Winnipeg over the summer is great. Winnipeg Harvest distributes food to over 39,000 people every month, 47 per cent are children. Winnipeg Harvest provides emergency food assistance throughout the year. Feeding hungry families, day after day, meal after meal, because hunger doesn’t take a holiday.
