HUNGRY PEOPLE BENEFIT BY ALDERWOODS GROUP

JUNE FOOD DRIVE

Winnipeg Harvest gratefully acknowledges the outstanding efforts of manager and staff of the Alderwoods Group who raised an equivalent of 74, 468  pounds of food in June for those who are hungry in our community.  That total is matched, pound for pound, with fresh produce donated by Peak of the Market for a grand total of 148,936 pounds!

Four Alderwoods Group locations, Thomson Funeral Home, Green Acres Funeral Home, Klassen Funeral Home and Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home and Cemetery hosted alternating food collection events during the morning commute each Tuesday for the month of June.  It was the 2nd annual Alderwoods Group campaign for Harvest.  Last year’s total brought in the equivalent of 55,000 pounds of food.

On behalf of employees of Thomson Funeral Home, Thomson ‘In the Park’ Funeral Home, Klassen Funeral Home and Green Acres Funeral Home who make up the Alderwoods Group in Winnipeg, I would like to sincerely thank all those who contributed.  Without everyone giving generously we would not have been able to almost triple last year’s total.  We would also like to thank Peak of the Market for matching our donation pound for pound,” said Barry Tuck, Alderwoods Group Market Growth Manager for Winnipeg. “All of us at Alderwoods Group recognize what Winnipeg Harvest means to our city and are proud to be associated with such an important organization.  We look forward to helping those in need in the years ahead.”

“The energy and compassion of the Alderwoods staff is really amazing,” said David Northcott, Executive Coordinator, Winnipeg Harvest.  “We would not be able to provide emergency food to so many Manitobans each month without this kind of community partnership.  I especially want to thank the Alderwoods managers – Barry Tuck, Ken Goertzen, Jean-Guy Mercier, Michael Gibbens and Cliff Binnie – for their untiring support and involvement with Winnipeg Harvest.”

Winnipeg Harvest provides emergency food to 39,265 people each month.  Almost half are children.

The Alderwoods Group is the second largest operator of funeral homes and cemeteries in North America.  www.alderwoods.com.                              -30-
